A Study of Vegetation Characteristic and Succession in Duryunsan Provincial Park
Abstract
Duryunsan Provincial Park is noted for its outstanding phytogeographical value, which is characterized by the distribution of diverse vegetation communities. This study aims to contribute to identifying the successional series of the warm-temperate forest by analyzing the vegetation characteristics according to the vegetation successional series in Duryunsan Provincial Park, located in Haenam-gun, Jeollanam Province. A total of 41 survey sites were selected, taking into account the correlation of vegetation in the canopy layer. Based on the analysis, the successional series in Duryunsan Provincial Park is predicted as follows: Pinus densiflora → Quercus serrata and Q. serrata-Q. variabilis → Q. serrata-Carpinus tschonoskii → C. tschonoskii → C. tschonoskii-Q. acuta → Q. acuta. Species expected to appear in the next stage of the successional series were identified in most communities. Considering their proportions, etc., the succession was expected to ultimately lead to a Quercus acuta community, although the timing may vary. Continuous monitoring and trend analysis are necessary to determine the exact successional series. These findings are expected to serve as useful data for conserving warm-temperate forests and climate change response.
